Much of the time, The Helio Sequence sounds like an experiment in organic electronic pop, with the rigid drum patterns setting the pulse, keys establishing the melodies, and the rest of the instruments serving as texture, though the warmth of Summers' vocals takes some of the chill off tunes like "Battle Lines" and "Upward Mobility," and the duo's pop sensibilities shine through on "Inconsequential Ties" and "Seven Hours." Given that these ten songs were supposedly the cream of 26 tracks Summers and Weikel banged out in a month, it's hard not to wonder if this album might have benefitted from a little more work on the songwriting and a greater portion of stylistic range while the songs work well enough, most of them resemble one another just a bit too much, and this project speaks of craft more than passion, full of shiny and polished surfaces that don't betray a great deal of human emotion. One can certainly hear the spontaneity in 2015's The Helio Sequence, which features ten songs that are spare and sleek, boasting streamlined melodies and echoing guitars and clouds of keyboards that hover over Weikel's insistent rhythms as Summers sings with a measured force that suggests his raspy period is a thing of the past. In the narrative of the podcast, this occurs at the end of the second episode subsequent episodes deal with the fallout from McLemore's death while exploring more of McLemore's life & character.The Helio Sequence - Brandon Summers on guitar and vocals and Benjamin Weikel on keyboards and percussion - supposedly wrote and cut the basic tracks for their self-titled sixth album as part of a friendly contest in which they sought to see how many songs they could crank out in a month. McLemore killed himself by drinking potassium cyanide on Jwhile the podcast was still in production. He recorded conversations with McLemore & other people in Woodstock. Reed investigated the crime & eventually found that no such murder took place, though he struck up a friendship with the depressed but colorful character of McLemore. After a year of exchanging emails & several months of conversation with McLemore, producer Brian Reed traveled to Woodstock to investigate.
McLemore sent an email to the staff of the show 'This American Life' asking them to investigate an alleged murder in his hometown of Woodstock, Alabama, a place McLemore claimed to despise. Matt also comments specifically on the lyrics: "I decided that the lyrics would shadow McLemore's life." In 2012, antiquarian horologist John B. Watching the initial trailers for the game & looking at production sketches reminded him of the 'S-Town' podcast & its main protagonist, John B. Matt Shadows their lead singer says the song was written as per request from the developers of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. What matters is getting through the dark times, remembering that day will come again, and reminding yourself that there is no such thing as a perfect relationship/person so stop looking for that.
We live in a broken world, and personal, deep relationships are some of the most complex things we deal with in our existence. Yes, if everything were perfect, we would completely and totally understand each other. "In a perfect world, there would be no divide" It may be dark for you and your significant other right now but "day will come rise again". If you stay and wallow in this misery of your current situation, you'll never know what could have been.
This is encouraging the listener to keep trying and working on your relationsship. "Go if you want to go, stay well you never know" Just because it may not be the same as it was when you started or you may be coming across difficult times, you have to remember why you started in the first place. There was a reason you started your relationship in the first time. "Keep in mind the last time, but don't forget the first time" This song is about a relationship and learning from past mistakes and not letting the past affect your future.
